Dr. Iris de Rode is an award-winning historian of the American Revolution and the eighteenth-century Atlantic world, specializing in the Franco-American alliance and the personal networks that shaped war, diplomacy, and intellectual exchange. She is the 2026–2027 McCahill Fellow at the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati.

De Rode received her PhD in American History from Université Paris 8 in 2019 and wrote a biography of François-Jean de Chastellux, which received the prestigious Prix Guizot from the Académie française in 2023. She previously published a book on the march to Yorktown in 2018 and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on the American Revolution and Franco-American relations. Her research draws on extensive archival work in France and the United States, including the discovery of previously unknown and unpublished materials. She has received more than 25 fellowships and research awards and previously taught at Sciences Po Paris.

She is currently completing a major trade book for Random House on the Franco-American alliance, placing George Washington, Lafayette, and Chastellux at the center of a new transatlantic history of the Revolution. An experienced public historian, De Rode has delivered more than 300 lectures, contributed to major museum and public-history projects, and appears as a historian in Ken Burns’s The American Revolution. Her work brings original archival scholarship to audiences across academia, museums, publishing, and media.
